What does a 925 Gold Jewelry Stamp Mean?

Many people tend to think that the 925 gold stamp means it has 92.5% gold but the “925” is only the hallmark for sterling silver. When 925 is stamped on gold, that almost always means that it is Gold Plated Sterling Silver. The thickness of the gold layer has to be at least 2.5 microns.

Silver is rated by a grading system, whereas gold is rated by purity of the gold, known as Karat.

The 24 Karat Gold

24k gold is also called pure gold or 100 per cent gold. This means that all 24 parts in the gold are all pure gold without traces of any other metals. It is known to be 99.9 per cent pure and takes on a distinct bright yellow color. There is no higher form of gold than 24K.
